What We're Looking For:
Flat Ink welcomes any and all commentary on the craft of writing or culture within media, whether that means a comparison between two authors you love, your own experiences with inspiration, thoughts on writing technique, or any form of personal experiences with the culture around writing. Feminist, POC, & other similar types of analysis are enouraged, whether that be analysis of the writing community, specific media & writers, or on an element of craft. We also strongly encourage longform personal narratives.
For prose & poetry, we're looking for gentle discoveries and secret hauntings, anything with a tinge of bittersweet.
Before you submit, make sure your work is properly formatted. Work must be 1.5 or double spaced, with 12 times new roman font, 11 arial, or 11 cambria, or any standard font near that size. Multiple submissions should be in individual files entitled Lastname_Firstname_SubmissionType.
Please do not send sexually explicit work, we have minors reading.

Prose & poetry submissions are closed
Craft essays must be 1-12 pages, and up to 5 essays are allowed at a time.
Fiction work must be 1-6 pages, and up to 2 works are allowed at a time.
Poetry must be within 1-4 pages, and up to 4 poems are allowed at a time.
Op-eds must be within 1-12 pages, and up to 5 are allowed at a time.
Other CNF must be within 1-20 pages, and up to 4 are allowed at a time.
We ask for First North American Rights, as well as the nonexclusive right to display and sell magazines that include your work. This means that we will keep your piece online on our website, and potentially use it in print if we expand later on in our run.
All rights revert back to the contributor after 3 months in publication and the contributor will always retain ownership of their work. We ask that you credit Flat Ink Magazine as the first place of publication if your piece is later published elsewhere. By submitting, you affirm that your work does not violate copyright law in any form.
We'll try our best to get a decision back to you as soon as we can. This tends to be within a week to three months. If we've taken longer, feel free to follow up with us at firstname.lastname@example.org
